LaunchPad started as a reaction to our own pain: agencies juggle tickets, milestones, and client expectations across disconnected tools, and project status ends up living in someone's head. We decided to build the tool we wanted - milestone-based roadmaps, client-ready status snapshots, and time-and-budget burn-down.
Scoping was the hard part. The temptation was a full project-management suite, which we didn't need and couldn't differentiate. We held to a narrow first release: one agency, one roadmap, one status view. Everything else waited for the 'ask for it twice' rule - a feature had to be requested twice by real users before earning a place.
The build taught us that client-facing status is a communication product as much as a data product. The hardest engineering was making 'where are we actually' honest - drawing attention to scope changes and buffer consumption rather than hiding them. That honesty is the feature our users name first.
Shipped and live, LaunchPad runs on the same playbook we take to client work: multi-tenant from day one, billing and roles wired early, usage analytics from the first week. The retrospective sharpened it - constraint is what makes a product sharp.
